THE MIDDLETON EXECUTIVE TEAM
Executive Director: Debbie Hartshorn
Debbie sets the tone at Middleton with a mix of healthcare experience and a passion for senior care. She holds a BS in Accounting from The Ohio State University and is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. She also began working in healthcare from the age of 15 when she was hired to work in the kitchen. Debbie spent 20 years caring for seniors in skilled nursing environments, then opened and operated a hospice service. Her philosophy? Have a vision for what is possible, then surround yourself with people who have a positive attitude. Debbie and her husband Tregg have two sons, who she loves to include in her work.
Independent Living Director: Max Kirby
Max was born and raised in the Philippines where she earned her BA in Communications from the University of the Philippines and her MBA from the De La Salle University Graduate School of Business. After traveling to the states for vacation, she relocated to Illinois where she worked in various positions in Home Health, Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation organizations. Max lives in Granville with her husband, Peter and her two children and considers it a great honor to be introduced by residents and residents' family members as a friend. "This is a close-knit community. We make everyone feel like family." Max was awarded the 2017 Honoring Excellence Award by the Ohio Assisted Living Association.
Community Relations Director: Kelly Schwartz
Kelly has been an LPN serving the geriatric population for more than 25 years. She has been awarded the Hospice of Central Ohio Compassionate Care Partner Award and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner. She has also been the caregiver and decision-maker for a family member with dementia.
"I understand and empathize with families when they need to make difficult decisions. You have questions and often need reassurance you are making the right choice. I am honored to be in the position to help families learn all of their options and the ways we can support them and their loved one. Your family will be met with deep, genuine caring by our staff. And we will go above and beyond to make your loved one feel comfortable and happy." Kelly and her husband, Mark have been married for 38 years, and are blessed to have two daughters/son-in-laws and five grandsons.
Move-in Coordinator: Katie Brokaw
Katie has a background in social work from Central Ohio Tech College, had internships with the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Licking County Job and Family Services, and has a decade or more experience in the healthcare field with a focus on the developmental disabilities community.
"I fell in love with Middleton because it truly feels like we are a big family. I knew within the first week I was here that this place was different. We are all unified in our desire to help new residents, current residents and families have a positive, personal experience. We aren't just here to do a job, but to build relationships with them over time." Katie and her husband, Trevor, recently married and Katie has a stepdaughter she loves and adores. They are also expecting a baby girl in March 2021 and are thrilled to welcome her to their happy family that includes three dogs and two cats.
Activities Director: Leslie Flowers
Leslie was born and raised in Newark, Ohio. She attended Newark Catholic High School and has been in the healthcare field for over 20 years. Her specialty is patient care and overall wellness. Serving as a patient coordinator and office manager, she has been instrumental in establishing the success of a dental practice.
"I love talking and interacting with Traditions residents. I have always enjoyed establishing friendly and healthy relationships. My favorite part of the job is making someone smile and feel special for the day." Leslie lives in Granville, Ohio with her two daughters. Lilly is a sophomore at Granville High School and Logan recently graduated from The Ohio State University.
Memory Care Director: Tonya Charles
Tonya received her LPN from Mid-East Career and Technical Center and has always wanted to be a nurse.
"I care for my residents as I would want my own family members to be cared for. They have become our family and are very special to me. It comes down to investing time in the lives of people we care about, showing them compassion and love and making them feel comfortable and at home." Tonya and her husband have five children and six grandchildren, with one more on the way.
Memory Care Activities Coordinator: Priscilla Livergood
Priscilla went to MoreHead State University on a full, four-year basketball scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor's degree. She was also inducted into MoreHead's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. She has since dedicated her career to working with adults with mental challenges and dementia.
"I was raised to care for others, and when I leave at the end of each day, my residents know how much I love and care for them. We really like each other, respect each other and share positive words of affirmation. That's so important. One family was so appreciative of my encouragement for their mother, they sent me flowers when I had surgery. I continue to learn about dementia, and to use my upbeat attitude, humor and friendliness to make them laugh." Priscilla was born and raised in Kentucky and has three brothers and three sisters who still live there.
Wellness Director: Lynn Eitel
Lynn received her LPN-IV from Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) and is Wound Care Certified. She chose Middleton because she believes in the strong leadership of Debbie Hartshorn and that everyone at Middleton is one big extended family. Lynn finds some of her most rewarding moments to be in her connections with residents, holding a hand, speaking with compassion and sharing fun or quiet moments.
Lynn and her husband live in Newark, OH where they raised their three boys. Lynn was awarded the 2017 Honoring Excellence Award by the Ohio Assisted Living Association.
Executive Chef: Stephanie Sabin
Stephanie graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts from The Culinary Institute at Bradford. She started with Traditions at Middleton as a night cook and through education and experience, worked her way up to the Executive Chef position.
"I've always loved to cook and knew this was what I wanted to do in life from the time I was little. Traditions feels like a family and we all encourage each other to be our best. I like knowing that I'm cooking for an important audience and a higher purpose." Stephanie lives in Mount Perry with her husband and black lab, Bandit.
Maintenance Manager: Ed Renicker
Ed has proudly been doing maintenance work for 35 years and considers Middleton his dream job. He has come to know and love the residents, ensuring he takes care of their needs and gets the job done right, something that's very important to him. Ed was born and raised in Newark, OH, has two sisters, one brother and four beloved dog babies (three Yorkies and one Poodle). He also happens to be a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Business Office Manager: Kim Rine
Kim has an extensive background in accounting and medical billing, is a Notary Public and has an Accounting/Computing certificate from the Knox County Career Center. She was born in Mt. Vernon, OH and raised on a small farm in Bladensburg. Today, Kim resides in Newark with her four Siamese cats. One of the favorite parts of her job at Middleton is the time she spends listening to residents' life stories and learning more about them.
